As professionals we embrace the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) which reflects the interactive relationship between health conditions and the child's ability to participate in daily life successfully.  We work closely with the child and family to promote optimal motor function.

Movement Challenges

Many of the children that we see at EIA have mobility or activity challenges.

Several are listed below but please feel free to contact us for more information or for any questions you may have.

  • Developmental delays

We communicate with the family, the child's physicians and other therapists as part of our treatment philosophy. Our team approach improves the quality of each child/adolescent’s care.

We offer equipment assessment and recommendations. We work with equipment representatives to collaborate on the most functional assistive devices for each child.

Our therapists are knowledgeable in orthotic assessment, casting and fitting. We have experience with a wide variety of orthoses including Sure-step, Ultraflex, Phatbraces, Allard toe- off (Kiddie Gait), Cascade and others. We collaborate with Cascade Orthotics and local orthotists to ensure optimal alignment and function for each child.

Intensive Therapy

Intensive physical therapy can be a powerful tool for individuals with a variety of disabilities. It has been shown that “…intense practice over a three week period had positive immediate effects on gross motor function, walking ability and goal attainment…” (Braswell 2008).

  • Activity Based Motor InterventionUp to three hours each day:

We offer intensive bouts of therapy to children we believe will benefit from a goal-directed, targeted treatment approach for a specified amount of time. This includes children recovering from a surgical intervention, children in critical periods of development, or a child or family wanting to achieve a specific goal.

  • Constraint- Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT)- Up to three hours each day:

" The research literature supports constraint-induced movement therapy as an effective intervention to improve arm function in children with cerebral palsy" (Chen 2014). This approach focuses on constraining the child's unaffected upper extremity, while facilitating use of their affected side through functional activities.
